When we reviewed the TP-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Lite HS-103 ($ 14.99) earlier this year, it showed its capabilities, voice control capabilities, and the ability to work with many other smart home devices. Achieved high marks for ability. The new Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Mini EP10 ($ 9.99 for one, $ 16.99 for two, and $ 29.99 for four) is even cheaper, offers the same capabilities, and is a bit smaller, making this lamp smarter. A great way to make coffee makers, and other small appliances. That said, the Wise Plug is priced at less than $ 14.99 for two, making it the best Smart Plug Deal and winning our Editors' Choice Award.

Slim design, identical features

The EP10 looks similar to the HS-103, but at 1.5 x 2.3 x 1.2 inches (HWD), it's slightly more compact (the HS-103 measures 1.5 x 2.6 x 1.5 inches). The front of the EP10 has a single, three-prong outlet and the rear has a three-prong plug. On the left is a backlit power button that glows solid blue when plugged in and connected, glows amber and blue during setup, and solid amber when the plug loses its Wi-Fi connection Goes

This plug-in uses a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio to connect to your home network so you can control it with the Kasa Smart mobile app (available for Android and iOS) and / or Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. Can do It also allows you to use IFTTT applets to connect to third party devices such as door locks, cameras and thermostats. The plug even integrates with other Casa devices, such as the Casa Spot KC400 camera. However, it does not support the Apple Home Kit platform or Siri Voice commands.

Under the EP10 Smart Plugins, the Casa Smart app appears in a dedicated panel on the device screen. Tap the panel to open the screen with a large power button. When the plug is on, the button turns green and gray when it is off. Below the screen are the Schedule, Timer, Period, and Runtime buttons. You can access the settings via the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Tap the Schedule icon to turn the schedule on and off for specific times and days of the week. The timer button lets you set the countdown timer when the plug should be on or off. With the Away button, you can configure the plug to turn the plug on and off randomly so that it looks like someone is in the house when you're away. The Runtime section lets you view simple usage statistics. For example, you can see how many hours the plugin has been running in the current day, last week, and last month. That said, you don't get the same energy usage reports you get with the Samsung SmartThings Wi-Fi smart plug.

To create scenes in which the plug-in will turn on or off using custom presets, tap the Senses button at the bottom of the devices screen. Here's a smart action button that lets you create automation based on the activity of other Casa devices.

Easy Setup, Reliable Performance

The EP10 plugin is very easy to install. Just download the mobile app, create an account, tap the plus icon in the upper right corner of the devices screen, select the device, then tap on Select Smart Plug. Find the EP10 in the list of plugins, tap it, follow the instructions to power it up, and verify that the LED is flickering amber and blue. Use your phone's Wi-Fi settings to connect to the plug's SSID, go back to the app, select your home SSID, and enter your Wi-Fi password. The app will automatically add the plugin to your list of Kasa devices and your list of Alexa devices. Give the plugin a name to complete the installation.

Plug test went smoothly. He did not hesitate to respond to app commands for on and off. Alexa Voice commands were equally responsible. The plugin followed my schedule without incident, and the smart action I created works without any problems. For example, I configured to turn the plug on when the Casa Spot camera detected motion.

Best if you have other Kasa products.

For less than $ 10, the TP-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Mini EP10 is a cheap way to turn ordinary devices into smartphones that you can control with your phone or your voice. It is compact enough not to block other outlets, and interacts with many Casa and third party smart devices. If you're not using other Casa devices, however, you can save some money with our Editors' Choice winner, Wise Plug.
